Standards

Code of conduct

Signed by every family at registration and expected at every practice and tournament.

Wrestlers

  • Show up on time and ready to work.
  • Listen the first time a coach speaks.
  • Shake hands before and after every match, win or lose.
  • No horseplay on the mats. Take care of teammates and practice partners.
  • Respect the room, the equipment, and the Field House.

Parents

  • Support the wrestlers, not the officiating.
  • Let the coaches coach — one voice in the corner.
  • Keep sideline talk positive toward every kid on the mat, both teams.
  • Get wrestlers to practice and to weigh-ins on time.
  • Handle concerns with a coach privately, not in front of the kids.

Coaches

  • Teach safe, age-appropriate technique.
  • Treat every wrestler in the room the same.
  • Keep certifications and background checks current.
  • Model the behavior we ask of the families.
  • Put wrestler health ahead of any result.

OKWA tournament conduct

  • Spectators stay in the stands — the mat area is for wrestlers, coaches and officials.
  • A maximum of two credentialed coaches per wrestler in the corner.
  • No tobacco, no alcohol, and no abusive language or behavior at events.
  • Officials run the match. Their calls are final; complaints go through a coach, not the stands.
